The Variety Show “Over the Rainbow” was held on 3 May 2024, at the Heung Yee Kuk Building Grand Theatre, serving as the inaugural event of the Arts Festival 2023-2024. As a cherished tradition of A-School, this annual Variety Show celebrates the outstanding achievements of our students across various performing arts disciplines, including instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and musical theatre.
The show commenced with a spectacular combined performance of Glorraine Moone’s “Unity”, featuring over 200 singers accompanied by our student piano virtuoso. Singers from the PS and SS choirs, along with the A-Parent Singers, united symbolically, bringing different stakeholders of the school together in perfect harmony. Following this magnificent opening, the stage was filled with captivating and diverse performances, presented by the Primary Division Senior Choir, Chinese Dance Teams, Teacher-Student Ensemble, Secondary Division A-Singers, Woodwind Ensembles (Saxophone Quartet and Woodwind Quintet), String Orchestra, Pop Band and Jazz Dance Team. The A-Singers showcased the public premiere of a newly commissioned piece titled “如畫般的天際“, composed by our collaborative pianist, Mr. Jason Liu, with lyrics by Ms. Jessie You, a renowned lyricist and valued member of the A-Parent Singers. All performing teams were selected based on their exceptional achievements in inter-school competitions held throughout the year.
The highlight of the Variety Show was the fully staged and professionally produced English musical, The Wizard of Oz. This dazzling production featured a stellar cast of young actors and actresses from both the primary and secondary division, who brought the whimsical story of The Wizard of Oz to life through captivating singing, dancing and acting. The show was further enhanced by thoughtfully designed staging, props, costumes, make-up, lighting effects and backdrops. The Variety Show reached a perfect cadence with a reprise of the timeless classic “Over the Rainbow”, which beautifully echoed the theme of the event. It was an unforgettable evening that left an indelible mark on everyone’s hearts
