I joined HKBUAS in Grade 8 and graduated in 2016. Looking back, A-School played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today, especially in my journey as a musician and educator. One of the most memorable parts of my school life was serving as the accompanist for the School Choir. A-School provided me with countless opportunities to grow, not only musically but also personally.
I also had the privilege of studying Music as an elective under the guidance of teachers who inspired me with their passion and dedication. I’m so grateful for the school’s rich and diverse music curriculum, which allowed us to explore a wide range of genres—from Chinese and Western music to traditional Cantonese pieces. We were encouraged to participate in performances and ensembles that truly broadened our horizons. The access to music notation software and other resources enabled us to experiment and learn in creative and meaningful ways.
I’m especially thankful for Dr. Chan Wai Kai, Benjamin, MH, our Chief Principal then and now, whose unwavering support in my personal development has had a lasting impact on my life. HKBUAS was not just a school; it was a nurturing community that believed in me. The encouragement I received from both teachers and peers instilled a sense of confidence that has propelled me forward in my musical career.
Reflecting on my experiences at A-School, I realize that the lessons I learned extend far beyond music. The values of collaboration, creativity and resilience have shaped my approach to teaching and mentoring others. As I continue my journey as an educator, I carry with me the belief that music has the power to connect and inspire. For all of this, I will always be grateful to HKBUAS.
