Reflecting on my school years at A-School, I feel immense gratitude for the many opportunities and constant encouragement I received from both the school and its teachers. Their support helped me grow from an introverted student into someone willing to face challenges, explore my potential with confidence, and seize every hard-won opportunity. As an alumnus, I’ve had the privilege of growing alongside A-School; now, as a teacher, I hope to transform from a beneficiary of its nurturing culture into a bearer—supporting students in their whole-person development.
I still remember that unexpected moment after my Grade 7 term-end assessment, when an ICL teacher waited at my classroom door and invited me to join a robotics competition. Though I had no experience in robotics, I thought, “Why not give it a try?” and agreed without hesitation. For the first three weeks of Grade 8, I spent every afternoon after school in the computer lab preparing for the competition, and—surprisingly—my team won the First Class Honour Award. The following year, I placed as 1st Runner-Up. This experience sparked my passion for computer science and inspired me to select Information and Communication Technology as an elective in senior grades. I later pursued Information Systems and Computer Science at university, and—by chance—became an ICT teacher. Honestly, when I first joined the competition, I never imagined it would lead me this far. But everything unfolded naturally. That single choice opened up a remarkable career path. Life often works this way: one decision can transform everything, depending on whether we seize the moment or let it pass.
As I write this, I am in the United States, leading a student in the MOS World Championships. There have been many challenges and uncertainties along the way, but when we stay ready to seize every opportunity, we often reap unexpected rewards. As the school motto says, I hope every A-Schooler will dare to challenge and strive for excellence.
