As a proud 2013 graduate, some of my most cherished memories come from my time on the Cross-country Team. The camaraderie we built during our training sessions in Tai Tong – pushing each other through challenging runs while watching the sunrise – created bonds that transcended year groups. Those inter-school competitions weren’t just about athletic achievement; they taught me the power of collective effort and shared purpose.
Looking back, I realize how profoundly these experiences shaped me. The relationships forged with teammates and teachers became the foundation for my understanding of meaningful collaboration. Even now in my career as a Production Manager, I often draw upon lessons learned on those early morning runs.
In my professional role, I’ve discovered that effective leadership begins with communication—a skill I honed during my time at A-School. My approach centers on active listening, where I first understand the client’s needs and team perspectives before contributing my insights. This method of synthesizing diverse viewpoints to create optimal solutions directly stems from my secondary school experiences, whether resolving team strategy disagreements or collaborating on group projects.
What makes this approach particularly valuable is its emphasis on inclusion. By creating space for all voices before offering my perspective, I’ve found we arrive at more innovative solutions – much like how our Cross-country Team’s varied strengths made us more competitive.
As A-school celebrates its 20th anniversary, I’m grateful for its commitment to “holistic development, student-centered” education. This philosophy nurtured not just academic growth but the complete set of life skills that have propelled me forward. To current students: cherish these formative experiences – the friendships, challenges, and lessons will serve you well beyond graduation.
