From Classroom to Operating Room: How A-School Shaped My Surgical Journey

It has been nearly 10 years since I graduated from A-School. The time I spent here allowed me to explore myself, meet lifelong friends, and build the blocks that underpinned my every step.

As a surgeon reflecting on my path, I trace my professional awakening back to my high school years at A-School. Two extraordinary class teachers became my guiding lights, patiently helping me navigate my early aspirations. I initially considered becoming a forensic pathologist, but I also doubted whether I could even gain admission to medical school.

My class teachers saw potential in me, yet I didn’t recognize it at the time. Their crucial advice to take an additional science subject became the stepping stone that made medical school attainable. Without their guidance, I might never have found the confidence to pursue this path.

Now in the operating theater, I’ve learned that attitude outweighs achievement. The humility to acknowledge weaknesses, the perseverance to keep improving, and the curiosity to remain a lifelong learner – these qualities matter more than any single success. Surgery, like life, is about constant growth.
